About Me
Guidance and grounding through the tides of change
I’m Richard Parrott, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Ramsgate, working with adults both locally and online across the UK. I specialise in supporting people through major life transitions — the turning points that can feel unsettling, disorienting, or overwhelming.
Change might arrive gradually or all at once: a bereavement, a relationship shift, a career move, retirement, or a deep sense that “something needs to change.” Whatever brings you here, therapy offers a safe, grounded space to explore your experiences and find a path forward that feels right for you.
My Approach
I’m an integrative therapist, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic traditions and tailor them to suit each client’s needs. My work is:
Relational – building a trusting, genuine connection at the heart of therapy
Humanistic – respecting your autonomy, values, and potential for growth
Attachment-focused – understanding how early relationships can shape current patterns
Alongside these foundations, I adopt a number of other thoeries including:
Internal Family Systems (IFS) – working with different “parts” of the self to promote healing and harmony
Schema Therapy – identifying and reshaping long-standing patterns that may no longer serve you
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) – a structured approach that helps process trauma, distress, and emotional blocks
Together, these approaches create a flexible, personalised therapy that supports both understanding and change.
My Values as a Therapist
I believe therapy is about more than reducing symptoms — it’s about making sense of your experiences, finding steadiness through change, and discovering new ways of living that feel authentic and meaningful.
Clients often describe my style as calm, grounded, and non-judgemental. My role is not to give you all the answers, but to work alongside you, helping you navigate your own inner world and the challenges life places in front of you.
Professional Background
BACP Accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with fifteen years experience.
Prior to setting up private practice I was a psychotherapist in the NHS, a counsellor for Carers UK and a Wellbeing Advisor and Sexual Violence Liaison Officer for the University of London.
Ongoing professional development in EMDR and IFS.
Committed to ethical practice and professional standards as published by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Professional Experience and Perspective
Alongside my clinical training, my work is informed by a range of professional experiences outside the therapy room. These roles have involved responsibility, change, and complex human dynamics, giving me a grounded understanding of how emotional difficulties arise in everyday life.
This wider perspective supports my work with clients facing major life transitions, helping me hold both the personal and practical realities of change with care and sensitivity.
